This gun season hunters again can help feed the hungry.

Thanks to the Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry Program, hunters and landowners can donate deer to inspected meat processors and in turn the meat will be donated to organizations that serve the needy.

"The nice thing about it is the Division of Wildlife has a fund set aside for every dollar that's donated they match it with a dollar so obviously we need donations to help pay for the processing, that's basically how it works and the majority of the deer we get we get during gun week," said FHFH Muskingum and Morgan County Coordinator, Bob Daniels.

From July 2011 to June 2012 Ohio hunters feeding the hungry programs have donated 110,000 pounds to food pantries across the state.

"We actually went and visited processors and we were in Christ's Table watching people eat and they can't wait for the venison to come in because they really like it. And it's very good for you, it's low in the fat and high in protein."

Processing plants that take part in the program in Muskingum County are: Shirer Brothers, Rittberger Meats, Phillips Processing and Olde Village Meats. To learn more about the program and how you can help, visit the Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry website, www.fhfh.org
