The City of Zanesville plans to lease a building once designated as the new location of the north end firehouse.

The property at 1674 Fairview Road was owned by McCullough's Tree Service and was purchased by the city. Lack of funding, put a project on hold that would have turned it into a fire house. Now, the city is leasing it to the Appalachian Center for Collaborative and Engaged Learning.

"The building itself has just been underutilized for storage that type of thing," said Community Development Director Stacy Clapper. "This allows us to help out the ACCEL program and allows them to lease it short term and also bring some revenues in for the building."

The city also has plans for another building on the same property.

"There are interested parties that may wish to lease the property and again it is being utilized for storage, but there's a potential it may be leased in the future," explained Clapper.

Clapper said the city will remove items being stored in the buildings and move them to other locations. The lease for the building to ACCEL is for the nine months and the organization will pay $3,500 in rent.
