One organization is keeping a holiday tradition going.
For nearly 30 years the Zane Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police has served a Christmas dinner at the Center for Seniors in Muskingum County. The F.O.P. says the event has had great success over the years thanks to the late Dave Joseph Sr., a local businessman who founded the dinner. The men in uniform look forward to this day so they may interact with the public in a fun, light-hearted atmosphere.
"We enjoy giving back to the seniors who have spent their lives giving to their families and the community and we enjoy giving back to them," said F.O.P. President, Wes Elson.
Thanks to fundraisers throughout the year, the F.O.P. is able to continue hosting the dinner. Elson thanked all the volunteers from various county organizations that turned out to help serve the nearly one-thousand seniors.
"We couldn't do it with just our members, we couldn't do it just on our own, it's a community event," said Elson.
The John Glenn High School Choir performed and seniors had a chance to win door prizes donated by several generous sponsors.
