The Associates Lodge of Fraternal Order of Police had one of their favorite charitable events this evening.
The annual 'Shop with a Cop' was held at the North Zanesville Walmart for 50 local children in need for warm clothing and Christmas presents. The event is a good opportunity for officers to build positive relationships with children who may have only seen cops during a negative or stressful time.
Jim Hicks, the President of the FOP explained, "Its the 'Shop with a Cop Program', we take disadvantaged children and team them up with an officer. They go out and get warm winter clothes, toys for Christmas and the officer gets to spend some quality time with the child to give them a little better concept of law enforcement."
Both the police and the children have a great time shopping with one another. "They love it, they do. They look forward to it every year, they get to spend time with kids and doing something that's fun, so they have a great time, "said Hicks.
Various Fundraisers throughout the year help to fund the event but Hicks notes that majority is donations from community support such as businesses and individuals and how much the FOP appreciate those donations to help local kids.
