Hospital Changes Visitation Policy

With the flu on the increase in Muskingum County, Genesis Hospital has decided to change it's rules on visitation.

Effective immediately the hospital will limit patient visitation at both of it's locations. Those permitted into the hospital are individuals 18 and older, immediate family and a limit of two visitors per patient. Only parents, grandparents and guardians may visit infants in the nursery. The hospital also states that all visitors must be free of flu symptoms.

"They are contagious for up to seven days so we would really like to restrict visitation because it's very easily passed on and transmitted to our patients," said Christine Daugherty, a Nurse with Genesis Infection Prevention.

If someone does have the flu they need to wait seven to ten days before visiting someone in the hospital. If you think you are getting sick, the most important thing you can do to protect others is to stay home.

"The best thing for people to do is limit their unnecessary contact with each other and in the public," said Daugherty.

Keep in mind, when visiting the hospital and you are not sick with the flu you run the risk of catching it from those who do have it.
