School Intruder Response Training

Schools are preparing for potential attacks by training their staff.

Maysville High School held a training session for their middle school and high school staff on the ALICE training program. ALICE stands for alert, lockdown, inform, counter and evacuate. The program is designed to give a person, or group in a life threatening situation, mental and physical tools that could play a role in their survival.

"Really what the biggest thing out of our training was today was if nothing else, our teachers know now that they have to think of whatever option they can think of to save themselves," said Maysville High School Director of Safety, Ric Roush.

After the lecture teachers and administration were put through a number of school shooting type of scenarios so they could put the ALICE technique into practice. The scenarios also portrayed the wait time for law enforcement.

"We like to think that the law enforcement people can get here quickly, very quickly but not all the times is that possible so what do you do in the mean time you have to do things to take care of yourself," said Roush.

Maysville also plans on training students and their parents on the ALICE program.
