A local woman, Ruby Tabor, has been battling stage 4 breast cancer since 2009.
After beating it once, she relapsed as the terminal cancer has spread to her lymph-nodes and brain. Through the 'Dream Foundation', which grants final dreams for adults with a life-limiting illness, Tabor is scheduled to travel to California to go to "The Ellen Degeneres Show". Excited as she is to see her favorite celebrity, there is a chance she will not be well enough to make the trip near the end of January.
"I am supposed to go to Ellen Degeneres, but we don't know if we are going to be able to go. The doctors say it depends on how I do," Tabor said. "She makes people laugh and is funny. I like her a lot. I watch her everyday. "
Many local residents know Ruby from the 11 years she was employed at 'Mother Tucker's' as tough and strong. She and her best friend of thirty years are now asking the community to attend a benefit to raise money for Tabor in case she loses her battle with cancer, she can pay for funeral costs.
Tabor's best friend, Vickie Renick said, "she is always friendly and has a big heart and is kind to everybody else and we are just asking that if people have a chance to stop by and you know spend a couple dollars and it helps her out and if they can do it, we would appreciated it. We have a lot of people, business people here in this community that come together all the time to help the community and its really, you really see it in Zanesville. When you say somebody cares, they do care in this community. "
Renick believes if the financial worry is off Tabor's mind, she will be able to focus fully on beating the cancer. The benefit is on January 18th at the Fraternal Order of Eagles from noon till close. It is open to the public and there will be a Chinese auction, a half and half raffle, and food.
