A Zanesville Police Officer will face disciplinary action after a compromising photo surfaces.
The photo is currently making the rounds on social media websites. It was taken January 17 in downtown Zanesville on 6th Street around 5 to 6 a.m. It shows Patrolman Brooks sleeping in his vehicle while on duty. Chief Eric Lambes said the picture speaks for itself.
"It doesn't make any of us look good, but we do want to investigate and look into the matter," explained Chief Lambes. "The officer was very forthright and came forward and said what happened, but we're looking into it further. We're checking to see the circumstances and once we're done we'll review everything and take the appropriate disciplinary action."
Chief Lambes said that Patrolman Brooks has a clean record with the Zanesville Police Department and has never been disciplined before. While, it's not an excuse Lambes said the officer was new to working that shift.
"Unless additional information comes through that we don't know about at this time we've determined that it doesn't warrant a termination at this point, but does warrant some serious corrective action and serious monitoring of future activity for that officer," explained Lambes.
Chief Lambes said they'll complete their investigation by next week and then decide what disciplinary action will be taken. For now the officer remains on duty.
