The State Senate and Representatives are gearing up for budget talks.
Governor John Kasich will introduce the biennium budget next month. Senator of the 20th District Troy Balderson said that most of the legislative session until June will focus on these talks. At this time the governor is closely guarding the budget.
"They'll be some tax issues that the governor has proceeded and a new education funding issue that they're going to address in this budget," said Republican State Senator of the 20th District Troy Balderson. "Those are pretty much the bigger talking points that are coming up for us now."
Balderson said that the state is moving in the right direction and continues to focus on economic challenges including job growth and education. Republican State Representative of the 97th District Brian Hill agrees.
"Our unemployment rate just dropped to 6.7 percent. We're about a percent under the national average, so that shows Ohio has done a great job in the last couple of years," said Hill. "We've got a lot to do to try and bring in jobs that will be family sustaining type jobs. That will bring income that will raise us out of the poverty level."
Hill said they'll also work on the issue of shale drilling and making sure that it's not over regulated.
