A community member who is partly responsible for the new recreation center being built at Ohio University Zanesville is being honored for his work.

On February 2, Rob Joseph will receive the 2013 Dick Johnson Civic Leadership Award at the Community Foundation's Groundhog Day Celebration. The award celebrates a person who is an entrepreneur, leader and philanthropist. Joseph was nominated by Bob Kessler.

"Those just don't all three go together," said Dave Mitzel the executive director of the Community Foundation. "They don't happen as often as you might think, but in our community we have the caliber of people so that every year we have someone who represents that well and that's what's special about the Dick Johnson Award."

Joseph has pushed for the recreation center on the OUZ campus believing that families and children need a place to come together. Financing on the facility has closed and soon earth will be moved.

"I'm excited about it because the community will have a place. Communities that don't have indoor family recreation facilities generally don't have many people moving there and this has been one of the problems in this community is that we haven't had a place for families to go," explained Mitzel.

If you wish to attend the Groundhog Day Event at Zane State/OUZ contact the Community Foundation or visit their website. The recreation center will open in April 2014.
