The next big winter storm could be heading our way. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for our area.
The Ohio Department of Transportation is gearing up for the next blast of old man winter by prepping salt trucks and plows. The entire 24 truck fleet for Muskingum County has been preloaded with salt and fuel so crews will be ready to go when the snow starts to fall.
Muskingum County Manager of Ohio Department of Transportation said, "Right now for the storm timing is probably the hardest thing to lock down air temperature are in state of fluctuation we are trying to figure out when it is going to lock down."
Valentine says the roads do not need pre-salt treatments because there is residue on the road from previous storms and if they put too much salt, it could melt the snow too soon, creating a sheet of ice.
"We know we are going to be plowing a lot in the beginning, so we will probably reduced down on the salt in the beginning with the exception of our intestates once the storm starts to slow down a bit, then we will be able clean things up easier."
Valentine suggests to slow down and stay back from the snow plows because they are large and will crowd the center lane.
