A body found partially submerged in the 6th Street Canal has been identified.
Zanesville Police Captain Tony Coury said that the body is that of 61-year-old Edward Swick of Zanesville.
"Ed was not homeless. He did live on 6th Street only a couple of blocks from where he was found," said Captain Coury. "He has a limited number of family members. We have made contact with a relative and informed him of his death."
The body was taken to the Licking County Coroner's Office for further investigation, but officials believe at this time the death was either an accident or natural causes.
"At this time we do not know why he was down there," said Captain Coury. "We have talked to a couple of people that told us from time to time Ed would go down there and eat his dinner, read the newspaper, but right now we don't suspect foul play."
Police said the body was discovered around 10:45 a.m. by a person walking along the 6th Street Bridge. The man alerted authorities. Police were assisted at the scene by Community Ambulance and the Zanesville Fire Department.
