Ready for School

We're not through this school year, but already the next generation of students are getting ready to go off to class.

Starting next week Zanesville City Schools will host kindergarten registration at the administrative office.

Children qualified for kindergarten must be five-years-old by August 1. Parents also must bring their child's birth certificate, social security card, immunization record and proof of address.

Administrators said this day is very important.

"We have about 280 some kindergarten students now," said Student Services Coordinator Kevin Appleman. "We try and have the early registration so we can get everything done and can know exactly how many classrooms that we need for next year."

Parents will be expected to fill out registration sheets along with emergency care sheets. They'll also be able to ask questions and teachers will be on hand as well. Appleman said the kids are excited to get to school.

"They are ready to go and also we give them so tips for over the summer if they aren't sure what the need to know," explained Appleman. "A lot of them have already gone to preschool but we give them information to work on over the summer because a kid can really grow over those three months."

Registration will take place Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
