Some area high school students learned a real-life lesson on the dangers of drinking and driving. There were police cars, fire trucks and a hearse at the scene of the accident..A mock accident that is.

Foxfire school had a mock crash accident demonstration at their school Thursday. The scenario showed the students what could happen if you drink and drive. Some consequences included getting arrested, killing a friend and being paralyzed. Christopher Emmons, a student at Foxfire who participated in the event says he thinks twice about his actions now.

"It changed my mind about drinking and driving after prom," said Emmons.

Lieutenant of Newton Township Fire Department, Chaz Cosgrave says that he thinks events like these really showcase the gruesome details that irresponsible decisions can lead to especially during prom season.

" Especially now they have senioritis. The unfortunate side of it is they're not adults. A lot of them think they are, they try to feel and act that way and irresponsibly comes into play and scenes like that can happen," said Cosgrave.

Many agencies worked together to make this event possible including South Zanesville Fire department, Muskingum County Sheriffs office and the Ohio State Patrol. They even brought in a funeral hearse.

"It took two and a half weeks to get all of the agencies together, they even went so far as to get a helicopter to convey how serious the situations can become, " said Whiz's Courtney Wheaton.

Flight Paramedic with Lifeteam, Adam Spellman says that scenarios like this can really happen.

" They're fairly real we do a lot of accidents and trauma on an everyday basis. Not all of them involve alcohol but do its unfortunate that's that the scenario, but that's what we deal with," said Spellman.

The message today was one of caution and safety. I am Courtney Wheaton with WHIZ news.
