Local community members were stranded on top of a roof Friday morning.
The Fools on the Roof event is part of the American Cancer Society's fundraising efforts.Community members were put on top of American Pride Power Equipment Building and were not allowed to come down until they raised enough money for cancer. The volunteers would make calls to family, friends and businesses until they reached their quota. Once they did the Zanesville Fire Department rescued them. One fool said he's here in his fathers memory.
"There was nothing else they could do for him because they did everything they could with they knowledge they had so at that point I'm here to help raise money because my dad should still be alive and be here, but with this cancer deal you know know when your time has come, " said McMillan.
The event is the kick off for the American Cancer Societys Relay for Life. President of the Muskingum County American Cancer Society says that he hopes the public donates because cancer effects the entire community.
"Cancer just touches so many lives and if we can find a cure for this it would just benefit the whole world, " said Ben Whitacre.
The Relay for Life event will take place Saturday June 8th at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds.
