A celebration took place for a group of 15 local students.

They graduated from the 9 month Muskingum Leadership class Friday. The program includes lessons on history, the economy and leadership. Sixth District U.S. Representative Bill Johnson says that leadership is important to a community's success.

"Well leadership is not about wearing a title,or sitting in a seat, or wearing a suit. Leadership is about influencing the outcome, it's about producing results. Its about inspiring and motivating people, " said Johnson

The students say they took the representatives words to heart. For one, the program made him a better leader. He also said he knows more about his community and its needs.

"Even as someone who lived here my entire life there are things I hadn't seen before or experienced before. It opens your eyes to what is out there in the community which helps you be a better leader, " said Denbow

The program did not run for a couple of years and this was the first year back.. Ohio University Zanesville, Zane State College and Genesis Healthcare partnered to bring this program back to the community.
