Fatal Motorcycle Accident In Newark

According to the Newark Division of Police, Newark police and fire responded to a crash on the SR 79 northbound ramp at 9:11 p.m. Friday evening.

Captain Craig Riley said in a statement that Richard Mitchell, 56, of Newark was driving northbound on SR 79 attempting to exit SR 16 westbound when Mitchell lost control of his Kawasaki motorcycle and crashed into a guardrail and lamppost.

Mitchell went off the right side of the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Newark Division of Police and the Licking County Coroner's Office.
