If you needed an excuse to eat something sweet we have the perfect reason.

Today is National Doughnut Day. The event was created by the Salvation Army in 1938 as a way to honor the women who served doughnuts and coffee to the soldiers during World War 1. Riesbeck's provides the Salvation Army with doughnuts and 10 percent of the proceeds goes back to the salvation army.

"Last year we did right around $400 for our sales were hoping to exceed that this year, " said Salvation Army Office Coordinator, Mindy McCloy.

They have a variety of flavors to choose from including glazed, cinnamon and powdered donuts. McCloy says that the will be selling donuts all month.

"It's going to be every Friday for the month of June that this will be available," said McCloy.

You can buy the Salvation Army doughnuts at both Riesbeck's locations in Zanesville and South Zanesville. McCloy says she appreciates the community support and every donation counts.
