Get Your Favorite Produce Before It's Gone

Local farmer's set up their stands outside the Zanesville-Muskingum County Welcome Center to sell some of their produce that's winding down for the season and are getting ready for what's next in line. Sour cherries are nearing the end of their season along with snow peas, sugar snap peas and almost everyone's summertime favorite...

"Strawberries are pretty much done. I might have strawberries Saturday, they're really winding down and there won't be much in the way of strawberries," said Mark Barnhart, President of the Downtown Farmer's Market Association.

Richard Schroeder of Schroeder's Vegetables Farm, says he's one of the only farmer's in Zanesville that raises the kabob onion, a sweet onion perfect for grilling. He also says shoppers can expect to see tomatoes, a community favorite and a vegetable he considers one of his specialties, in about three weeks. Schroeder also sets up shop at the Saturday farmer's market and encourages people to stop by.

"And to support the local economy and for freshness of your food because you have to consider that this food is produced here in Muskingum County and it's 2,200 miles fresher than California," said Schroeder.

To shop local, you can swing by the farmer's market Wednesday's in the Muskingum County Welcome Center parking lot from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday's at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
