Don't Leave Your Kids In The Car

There are some alarming new statistics out that you might want to pay attention to ...especially during this heat wave.

David Davis, the Director of Emergency and Trauma Nursing at the Genesis Good Samaritan campus, says in 2013 alone, 20 children have died from being left in a car in the United States. And with the heat advisory in our area, he wants to remind everyone not to leave their children in the car.

"Weather like this, a closed car gains 15 degrees in 10 minutes and can gain 50 degrees in less than a half hour," said Davis. "A small child can be dead in less than 15 minutes in a hot car."

Davis says in over half of the cases, parents didn't intentionally leave their child in the car, they just forgot.

"It seems inconceivable that you would leave a child in the car but it happens all the time. So just be really cautious, don't leave your kids in the he car and certainly don't leave a pet in the car."

If you do take your kids on errands or have to run into the grocery store, it's a good idea to put your cell phone or purse in the backseat so you don't forget your little one is back there.
