The Texaco Country Showdown went off without a hitch on Saturday and one local band went home as winners.
The competition featured 11 finalists at Eaglestick's Golf Club and a panel judges that included radio personality Tommy Douglas, orchestra director Laura Schumann and talent manager Vicki Maple. The three judges had to make a tough decision between the talented acts.
"I feel for the judges, they had a really hard decision to make at the end of the night and they came out and said that it was two to one for Doublecut,” said event organizer, Sara Shallcross. “It was a hard choice for them, they deliberated for a long time and Doublecut won out and they are moving on to the state finals."
The state finals will be on September 3rd in Marietta at the Washington County Fair. Doublecut is a popular Zanesville band that already has quite a following but the judges chose them based on more than their fan base.
"Part of the judging requirements of Texaco, we use the Texaco judging form as required by Texaco, and part of it is marketability in country music and just overall stage presence and things like that and they had it. They hit the marks on all of those."
Doublecut also won the People's Choice Award. The audience was able to vote on their favorite performance by donating a dollar to the Wounded Warrior Project. The award raised more than 400 dollars.
