Over 800 students are now ready for the school year to begin.
Eastside Community Ministry handed out their backpacks put together through their "Tools for School" program.
"I think it's incredible. Obviously the number requested every year grows. It's a program that's needed in our community and I think that it is great that we're able to use so many partners and use so many volunteers and fill that need," said Youth Program Director Joey Osborn.
Volunteers were kept busy running back and forth to retrieve the supplies and bring them to waiting children. Helping out were members of Ohio University Zanesville/Zane State Rotaract and several Eastside Youth Group members.
"It was just a great service opportunity to start off our year because our year starts in August. I just wanted to get everybody together outside of a meeting room and out here doing what we preach every day," said Rotaract Club Madison O'Hara.
Eastside Youth Group member Zyon Rush added, "You may not like them and you may not know them, they may not know you and they may be strangers, but it's good helping."
Backpacks contained everything from paper and pencils to binders and colored pencils. Eastside said the backpacks are valued at $35.
