The Ohio State Highway Patrol and Heath Police Department will hold an OVI checkpoint Friday.

The checkpoint will run between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. on State Route 79 (Hebron Road) south of Kaiser Drive.

The checkpoint is funded by federal grants and is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers. It's also a way for law enforcement to kick off the national "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign which begins Friday and runs until September 2nd.

Last year in Licking County there were two alcohol related fatal crashes out of ten total crashes resulting in two lives being lost. In 2013 Licking County has already experienced two alcohol involved fatal crashes.

The area chosen was selected after reviewing OVI related crash statistics from the past two years and through the first half of this year, along with locations of OVI arrests made.

The Patrol reminds motorists if you plan to consume alcohol designate or make other travel arrangements before you drink.
