Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz announced on Friday afternoon, that his office made a huge break in a federal drug investigation linked to Zanesville, that has been going on since 2009.
According to Sheriff Lutz, on August 21, the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office arrested six Zanesville residents in connection to drug trafficking of narcotics and firearms violations.
"The charges have been filed in U.S. Federal Court. This was a joint investigation with federal authorities," said Lutz. "There are other pending arrests that we do believe will come to light here at a later date."
With the help of the Zanesville Police Department, the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives, officials were able to arrest 37-year old Jeffery A. Johnson, 36-year-old Christopher L. Newman, 43-year-old Eugene L. Evans, 46-year old Maurice Jones, 38-year-old Jonathan Q. Smith and Ryan Robb who is 31.
"These people are what I would consider some major drug distributors. This isn't your nickel and dime stuff on the corners. And again, over the course of the investigation, they have been involved in a lot of illegal activity, and we're very fortunate to be able to get them off the street."
Sheriff Lutz says no other information can be released at this time, as the investigation is still ongoing.
