Senator Sherrod Brown announced federal funds to improve electric service.

Senator Brown said South Central Power Company in Lancaster was awarded a $64 million loan guarantee from US Department of Agriculture and Rural Utilities program to construct new distribution and transmission line in 18 southern Ohio counties. The counties include Licking, Perry and Muskingum.

Some money will also be used for smart grid projects.

According to the USDA the loan guarantee will serve more than 5,100 customers through the construction of 558 miles of distribution and 34 miles of transmission line.
