Around three hundred flu shots await those seeking vaccination for the virus.
Kroger Pharmacy is now offering the shots. While peak flu season is typically anywhere from December to February, some people do start getting the flu as early as September and October.
"We typically like to get everyone vaccinated as early as possible anything we can do to try and eliminate the big spread of the flu. That includes also washing your hands, avoiding people who are sick, but the flu shot was probably the most important way of preventing the flu," said Kroger Pharmacist Chris Baker.
The flu shot at Kroger vaccinates against three strains of the virus and is for anyone 14 or older, but there are some people more than others that need to get protection.
"Typically, we also like to target people who are at high risk of getting complications if they do get the flu," said Baker. "That would be people with diabetes as well as chronic lung condition. Anyone who is at greater risk of getting complications we like to vaccinate."
Cost of the shot for those without insurance is $28.00. Baker said they do bill insurance and Medicaid for those that have those options.
