The Carr Center celebrates a special week of service to the community.
Tuesday, Mayor Jeff Tilton proclaimed it National Adult Day Service week. The Carr Center provides care to adults who need a place to go when their caregiver needs to work or have time for themselves.
The center also gives the older adults a chance to interact with one another, stay active and learn new skills, like working with computers.
"We really are striving to provide person centered care," explained Executive Director of the Carr Center Kim Hosler. "There's not a one size fits all activity program that we just run everyone through. We want to make sure that it's good for everyone on all those levels."
Anita Woodard runs the Adult Day Service. She said she enjoys getting to know their clients and watching them enjoy the experience of new activities.
"It's so rewarding. We learn from them," said Woodard. "We love to hear their stories that they have, getting them interactive. We love to see their faces when they get excited about something and it's fun to watch a memory come back to them."
After the proclamation Hosler announced the creation of a support group to assist caregivers in our area. To find out more about it or the Adult Day Service program contact the Carr Center at (740) 453-5417.
