Children Gain Outdoors Skills

Despite the heavy rain, the National Wild Turkey Federation of Zanesville held an event to teach children about the great outdoors.

The Y- Bridge Long Beards hosted their 14th annual Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship day better known as "Jake's Day". This is the 2nd time that the event recognized long term member and past president, Dick Sorg who tragically died in an accident in July of 2012.

"You can't say what type of person Dick was,' said Long Beards President, Donald Hampp. He has touched more lives in this county than anybody else, I mean he was just he was Dick. "

Along with honoring Sorg, the federation taught the 42 children who attended the event about hunting, fishing and friendly competition.

" Right now we are having our fishing derby, later on we will be doing a still target shoot, a clay target shoot, and archery shoot, a crossbow shoot and a bee bee gun shoot, " said Hampp.

The kids won prizes, including fishing rods and bicycles, and left with a stomach full of Creno's pizza. The educational day was free of charge to the children and their families.
