Take Steps Crohn's and Colitis Walk

A fundraising festival and walk took place at Ohio University Zanesville on Saturday to raise awareness about Crohn's and Colitis diseases.

The National Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America hosted it's 3rd annual "Take Steps" walk which celebrates and supports victim's of the serious disease, that can often have life threatening complications.

"They are both inflammatory bowel diseases and they have similar symptoms diarrhea, bleeding, very painful stomach cramping and many of the patients end up having to have surgery and to remove portions of their intestines," said Take Steps Manager, Brianne McFarland.

At the festival, more than 150 participants and their families enjoyed food, live musical entertainment and fun costume games. This is the largest fundraising event for the organization.

"The money goes towards research to find a cure, and we also support the patient through patient sessions and we have a free information resource center where they can call and get their question answered, " said McFarland.

It is estimated that 1 in every 200 people have the disease. For more information about Crohn's and Colitis you can visit the foundation's website at www.CCFA.org.
