In honor of Anti-Bullying Awareness Month, a local mother created a bully free fundraiser.
On Sunday, Erin Rock hosted the first ever Run, Walk, and Roll Against Bullying 5K walk at Riverside Park. The 16,000 steps the walkers took represented the 16,000 children that have missed school because of bullying.
"I think it turned out really well of course you are always hoping for a larger crowd, but I think I have 50 people walking right now and our community has been so incredible I have more donations than I do people right now, " said Rock.
The walkers also participated in a silent auction, listened to live music and purchased anti bullying themed t-shirts. Rock she hopes that events like these help children stand up against their aggressors.
"Kids don't know where to go when the have these issues because they are afraid to tell, afraid to be singled out, so if we could just get them to be braver I think they'll come up with their own answers, " said Rock.
The money raised will go towards a national anti-bullying organization, Pacers and the Ohio based anti- bullying organization, Think Before You Speak.
