In honor of National Awareness Month, a local church hosted a community festival to teach the public safe practices.
The New Covenant Church in South Zanesville connected with the Red Cross, Help Me Grow, Rambo and other community outreach organizations to teach visitor's about emergency plans, fire safety and healthy living.
"We just want people to be aware of their surroundings, of their physical surroundings, of fires and things of that nature," said Pastor, Eric Gibson. Mainly their spiritual surroundings and their relationship with Jesus Christ,"
Along with the other learning activities, a deputy at the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office provided an important free service to the kids.
"The sheriff's here," said Gibson. He is here to do finger printing for the children and to get them a photo ID in case your child comes up missing you can have them right there on file, fingerprinted, so you get the information out the networks available. "
Gibson says the night will end with a wiener roast and an outside movie featuring biblical characters. He hopes to do this event annually.
