The Licking County Sheriff's Office is giving residents a unique opportunity.

Starting November 19 they'll hold the citizens academy. The point of the classes is to educate residents on the daily operations that are conducted by the sheriff's office.

Attending this class will not make you a law enforcement officer.

Classes will be held at the Central Ohio Technical College/Ohio State University Newark campus and will take place once a week until the end of February. Classes will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Participants must be at least 18-years-old and pass a criminal background check. The cost of the academy is free.

Applications must be received by November 14. To apply contact the Licking County Sheriff's Office or www.lcounty.com/sheriff
