After receiving a bomb threat at their university on Thursday Muskingum students spoke out about their experiences.

At approximately 12:45 p.m. Muskingum University in New Concord received a phone call on their 1-800 number saying that there was a bomb on the campus. Although there was no bomb found, officials from the school and local emergency agencies immediately responded by making sure the campus was vacated before closing the school down for the day.

"Well I was in French and a faculty member came in and told us that there was an emergency and we needed to leave then I got as text message through meta saying there was a bomb threat and we needed to evacuate," said Freshman, Kimberly Holmes.

The University also sent out a school wide text message through the Muskingum Emergency Text Alert System to make sure students stayed away from school and found safe shelter for the night. Some students without the program heard the news through other friends. Muskingum University Junior and German foreign exchange student, Thomas Schmabl was one of them.

"Actually I was at the barbershop and a friend of mine called me and then he picked me up." said Schmabl. " He drove me to the German House to grab some stuff and then we left to the high school and we stayed there for a bit and he took us to his cabin and we had a great day. "

The university provided shelter for other students who did not have family or friends to stay with during the evacuation. The school's IT department was able to trace the phone number from where the call originated and they will attempt to quickly track down the caller. The school is expected to open back up at 6:30 a.m. and classes will start promptly at 8 a.m. For more information about safety procedures and emergency notification students can refer to the student handbook or go online under their Muskie link.
