Residents Brave Cold Weather For Charity Run

Some area residents burned a few calories Thursday, before they even sat down to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner...

Runners from across the area participated in the 6th Annual 5K Race for Grace in downtown Zanesville. Grace United Methodist Church sponsors the run, with the proceeds benefitting a local charity each year.

"Our outreach committee at church decided they wanted to do something to A. Promote health in the community, but also benefit one of the local charities, and this benefits Christ's Table," said event Co-Director Bob Moon.

100 percent of the entrance fees for the 5K will go to the food pantry. Moon said the popularity and support of the event continues to grow each year, despite the fact that it takes place on the holiday.

"The nice thing about this is it brings families together, and also, a lot of people from out of town come, and are looking for races to run on Thanksgiving morning. It's kind of a tradition with runners to find an early morning race, and then it gives them a little incentive to get an exercise in, and then they can go home and enjoy a little bit extra of thanksgiving food."

Moon said close to 150 runners braved the 20 degree weather for Thursday's event.
