New Concord Mayor Greg Adams was recognized as the 2013 Child of Appalachia honoree at The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio's annual, "I'm a Child of Appalachia" celebration. Adams, a New Concord native, says he's thrilled to be honored.
"I really was surprised because there's really so many people in the region that take the time and effort and donate their talents and resources to advance the quality of life in our region that I really just consider myself just a small part of that pie that has been fortunate enough to do that so it was really a surprise," said Adams.
Foundation for Appalachian Ohio CEO and President, Cara Brook, says Adams is an "inspiration" and says his dedication to helping improve the region is just one reason he was recognized.
"There are so many reasons that it makes sense to honor Greg as a child of Appalachia," Brook explained. "But I think the biggest one is the huge difference that he has made throughout his life to his community around him. He's someone that never seeks out recognition but at so many successes, he's been the person really working hard to make them happen."
The event was held at Muskingum University with around 160 people in attendance. The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio serves 32 Appalachian counties with a goal of "fostering opportunity" and growing grants to make the region a better place to live. To learn more at www.AppalachianOhio.org
