If you didn't have a chance to give back to the community over the holiday season, there's another way you can help.
As a way to support the Red Cross and those in desperate need of blood, WHIZ is sponsoring a blood drive this Monday, Dec. 30 at Secrest Auditorium from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"It's just a really good way any time of the year to really give back to the community and donate blood for the Red Cross but most importantly at this time of the year, people are so busy with their holiday plans and gatherings and donations kind of decrease this time of year because people don't have time to get out," explained Sara Shallcross, who is helping coordinate the event.
Those who give blood will receive gifts and coupons, and of course, snacks and drinks once you donate.
"Just come out and support the local community and help give back. It's a good way to end the year and kind of start things off right for the upcoming year, giving back to the Red Cross and the community."
If you do plan on donating blood, make sure you bring your driver's license. The Red Cross suggests getting a good night's sleep, eating a healthy meal and drink plenty of water ahead of time.
