The annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program is already in full swing ...Don't miss your chance to give your tree a new life.

The City of Zanesville is partnering with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to establish seven tree drop off stations throughout Muskingum County.

"These trees will be collected by ODNR staff throughout the next month and eventually these trees will be used in the spring for fish habitat at Burr-Oak Lake, " said Superintendent of Cemeteries and Park Maintenance, Matthew Phillips.

Before dropping off your trees there a few things that the department is asking the public to check for.

" The only thing we ask residence is if you bring your trees in would you please remove any excessive tinsel, any tree bags and tree stands before dropping them off, " said Phillips.

They are also asking people to only bring in real Christmas trees, no artificial trees are permitted. Trees ranging in size from five feet to ten feet in length are preferred and people should drop off them off during the day. The program reduces the amount of wasted space in landfills and goes towards improving the environment. The deadline to drop of trees is on January 24th.
