A branch of the Muskingum County Library System was closed Friday due to weather complications.
Assistant Director, Blair Tom says that the extreme shifts in temperatures caused the sidewalk in front of the South Zanesville branch to lift, making it impossible to open its front doors.
We are working on getting that resolved. We have a short term solution. The concrete will be jack hammered and there will be gravel and when the ground thaws we will replace the concrete," said Tom.
Tom says that there are other branches of the library nearby that visitors can use including the downtown library and Philo- Duncan Falls locations. He says that the are trying to have the problem fixed as soon as possible for South Zanesville branch users.
"Our goal is to have the jack hammering and the gravel completed today so that we can resume normal hours tomorrow that is the goal and the plan at this point, " said Tom.
Once the sidewalk thaws and the weather begins to warm in the early spring, the library will begin construction on a permanent fix.
