Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States and to raise awareness Genesis Hospital is celebrating national Wear Red Day.
The holiday is a way to educate people about the risk factors, research and treatments available for heart disease. Many women are unaware of the symptoms which often leads them to refrain from seeking help.
"Sometimes they don't have the typical chest pain, the crushing pain that most people have, they may have some difficulty breathing, dizziness or weakness," said Dr.Albirini.
Dr. Albirini says that over the last ten years research and studies of heart and cardiovascular disease have improved dramatically. He says doctors use a variety of treatment options to assist their patients.
"That includes procedures like angioplasty or stinting procedures for the heart vessels in general. That includes surgical procedures and also include medications and life style changes," said Dr. Albirini
People who think they may be experiencing symptoms of the disease should call 911. If you would like to know more about staying heart healthy Dr. Alberini will be at this year's Day of Dance for Heart Health on February 22nd at the Colony Square Mall.
