A special ceremony was held at the Genesis Bethesda Hospital campus Wednesday afternoon.
The "Topping Out" ceremony commemorated a huge milestone for the hospital, the new building has reached its highest point. Three beams, signed by hospital employees and volunteers, were placed in the new addition to the hospital on the south side of the building. An evergreen tree was also part of the ceremony to represent growth.
"We're just very excited about today and very excited about bringing the new facility to the community," said Chief Development Officer of Genesis Healthcare Systems, Al Burns.
The expansion of the Genesis Medical Center will include all private patient rooms in a state-of-the-art facility, a new outpatient cancer center, and a new medical office building. Burns says with construction on schedule, the medical center is set to open early next year.
"The new portion will be done around January of 2015 and we will begin a limited occupancy around then on the first floor and then the remainder of the building will open in May of 2015."
The Topping Off ceremony was attended by the construction team, the senior leadership team and by Genesis employees.
