Officials from the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department met with the Muskingum County Commissioners on Thursday to negotiate a new rental agreement for the lease of their building on 7th St.

Work on the document has lasted for the past several months and now it is in the final stages of completion. During the meeting the health department raised issues concerning the agreement.

"We occupy about 25 to 26 percent of the building that we are in so we are looking to have both our square footage costs and utilities costs tagged to that percentage of the building that we occupy," said Muskingum County Health Commissioner, Corey Hamilton.

Other concerns discussed included signage for parking at the health department and making sure that the agreement features a termination clause to provide adequate notification in case of a change in location. Hamilton says the lease is undergoing significant changes this year.

"The last rental agreement was significantly old it had been negotiated a couple of decades ago and so the costs per square foot was significantly less than what will be occurring now, " said Hamilton.

Both the county commissioners and the health board say they are committed to coming up with a lease that they both can agree on quickly and efficiently. The lease will be valid for five years and rent is expected to cost approximately $110,000 per year.
