The city of Zanesville Community Improvement Corporation unanimously approved the sale of the train depot building during a meeting Wednesday afternoon. The train depot, which has had several owners over the years and has sat empty for years, was sold to Zanesville residents, Brent and Kristy Huffman for $10,000.

"It needs a lot of work and we felt that we had no use for it so if we can get somebody to go in there and renovate it and make it look good, it's a win-win situation for the city," said Mayor Jeff Tilton.

Mayor Tilton said there was only one other bidder who offered $1,000 for the property. New owner Kristy Huffman said she "admires" old properties and plans on turning the first floor of the building into her photography studio, and is thinking of using the second floor for an art studio or offices.

"I'm excited and scared,"said Huffman. "I think it's big job but it'll be fun and interesting "

Huffman expects to complete renovations on the building by early next year. Built in 1882, the train depot was used as a stop for passengers traveling across the country. It went up for sale in October of last year.
