Another candidate in the race for Probate-Juvenile Court Judge is Eric Martin. He is currenlty a judge in Muskingum County Court.
Martin says he has nearly a decade of experience and has presided over 45 thousand cases. He is currently the only judge running for the position. He says working in the Muskingum County Court has allowed him to become familiar with all aspects of the legal system.
"I am named and recognized as the presiding administrative judge by the Ohio Supreme Court. I am in charge of managing the courts budget, dockets, personnel , case management issues and I can take those qualifications and experience and transition that into the juvenile court," said Martin.
In 2007, the Muskingum County Hope Court was started as a reactive method to rehabilitate criminal adults and Martin hopes to use some of the same tactics to keeps children out of trouble. He says the Hope Court has a proven record of success.
" The last graduate we had in Hope Court was a gentleman in his 20's. He stabbed his mom in the chest with a screwdriver when he was seven, burned down a church in Frazeysburg at age 12 and he started on the path of drugs. We got him put him in the Hope Court and two and a half years later he is clean and sober, owns his own home and has two jobs," said Martin.
Along with enacting preventative measures to keep kids off the street, Martin hopes to address the growing drug and mental issues affecting our area.
