Those who frequent Zane's Landing Park have likely noticed a slight change of scenery recently.

The old tent structure which went up in 1988 was taken down with a new structure put in its place last Thursday.  Zanesville Public Safety Director Fred Buck said years of weathering and vandalism took a hard toll on the old structure, and it was time for a replacement.

"We used to come in and retreat it about every year and clean it, but it got to the point where we couldn't even run a brush on it to clean it any more," Buck said.  "It was so bad, so we've been looking for about a year and a half now for a new structure."

Zanesville Mayor Jeff Tilton said he received several complaints about the previous shelter since taking office and that the new tent will be well worth the city's investment.

"We have the Memorial Concert Band who have five or six concerts throughout the summer here on Sundays," Tilton said.  "We have the Stars and Stripes on the River who have an event here for two days on July 3rd and 4th. Next weekend alone we have the Heart Chase on Saturday that will be here most of the day, so there are events throughout the year."

Because of its unique shape, the tent had to be entirely custom made.  It cost the city around $23,000.
