3 Months to a Healthier Lifestyle

The WHIZ Media Group wants to shape up and because we're committed to improve our fitness we're taking part in a challenge.

The Muskingum Recreation Center has put together a team of 17 of its staff members to go against 25 WHIZ employees to see who's fitness improves the most over a three month time frame. This week was the first step to a healthier lifestyle, the fitness assessment.

"It helps us create an individual exercise plan for you, " said Health and Special Populations Coordinator Brooke Smith. "It gives us a baseline of where people start and then they can see their improvements as they go along."

The fitness assessment includes a measure of weight, a measure of body mass index, heart rate, how many sit-ups one can complete in a minute, push ups, a sit and reach test, a hand grip test for strength and the most complained about test, a three minute stair step challenge.

"You guys are actually doing pretty well," said Smith when asked about the WHIZ team. "It's sometimes surprising, not surprising for us, but for the individuals that are involved in the testing because they do better than they think they would."

Throughout our "friendly" competition I'll be blogging about my exercise experience and journey to a healthier lifestyle. We'll be sharing tips for working out, healthy recipes and taking a look at some of the different exercise classes offered.  And because we all need support we encourage you to start your own exercise routine whether it be working out at home or joining a gym and let us know how you're doing!
