Seniors at Bishop Rosecrans High School became graduates Saturday afternoon.

The 64th annual commencement was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Secrest Auditorium in Zanesville.  Thirty-five students received their diplomas in this year's class.  Principal Jennifer Mallett said graduation is always filled with mixed emotions, but that has never been more true for her than this year.

"This is a very bittersweet day for me," Mallett said.  "Not only am I leading this class on to the next journey in their life, but my daughter is the valedictorian and is graduating also, so I'm very happy but also emotional."

"It's been really cool having my mom as the principal," said Malle Schilling, co-valedictorian of this year's class.  "Some people might think that that's kind of awful, but it's been pretty nice."

Anna Boggs was co-valedictorian with Schilling.  While she said she'll miss seeing her friends everyday, she knows Rosecrans prepared her for the next chapter of her life as she sets her sights on the University of Cincinnati this fall to major in neuroscience.

"I am really happy that I went to Rosecrans because I've taken both AP courses that were at Rosecrans, and I know the education that I have will really help me next year," Boggs said.  "My brother goes to Cincinnati, and he already told me that I'll be alright."

In addition to numerous athletic accomplishments, Principal Mallett said this year's class averaged a 24.8 on the ACT, and the 35 graduates have already combined for over $1.8 million in scholarships.
