Area ladies tee'd it up Monday afternoon to help female students receive an education.

Fourteen teams of women took part in the 6th annual Afternoon Tee--Drive for Women's Golf Outing. The money raised from the event will help fund scholarships for ladies at Zane State College. In addition to lunch, a Chinese auction, and driving and putting contests, players had the unique opportunity to bid on one of three male caddies to go along with them and take some of the more difficult shots throughout the nine hole scramble.

"We really needed to make it more of a fun event than one where we had to really interest a lot of serious golfers," said Pamela Jira of Zane State who helped coordinate the outing. "Once we changed the event to nine holes and we added the caddie auction, it has really taken off. It's a lot of fun, and it's fun for the caddies as well."

Zanesville native and former LPGA star Michele Redman was also on hand Monday and instructed a clinic with the golfers before the scramble. It's an event she's made a point to help with each and every year.

"I was fortunate enough to have a really good college coach that helped me, and I want to give back to have other young ladies have the opportunity that I did, whether they have a golf scholarship or a scholarship that we can provide through an outing like this," Redman said.

The Zane State College Foundation hopes to award four scholarships with the money raised from this year's scramble.
