Lucas Templin Vigil

The Frazeysburg Homecoming Festival concluded by candlelight Thursday night as the town of 1,300 turned out to celebrate the life of Lucas Templin.

Family members say the 11-year-old was accidentally shot and killed while playing with his best friend Tuesday afternoon.  While the town may be small, their large hearts are helping family and friends through the difficult time.

"This is a very close community," said Pastor Robert Mesnard of Frazeysburg United Methodist Church.  "Practically everybody's related or been friends for life. They can come together very easily, much more easily than some other communities can. That's a strength here for this little town. And as I said, when we do that, when we come together as a community, we'll get through this."

A crowd of over 500 people lit candles tonight while Pastor Mesnard offered the prayer.  The family also shared a message of appreciation for all the support they've received in remembering a wonderful young man.

"He was like his dad," said Heather Leasure, Lucas's cousin. "He was friendly, loving. He loved legos. He was an 11-year-old boy, you know.  He'd ride bikes. He should still be riding a bike."

The community has already rallied to raise over $9,000 through www.gofundme.com to help the family with funeral expenses.
