If you have ties to the Putnam area, you are invited to the second annual Putnam Hunkie Reunion this weekend.
Last year's reunion drew nearly 500 people, and they hope to have even more show up this year to celebrate old friendships, and of course, being a Hunkie.
"The 'Hunkie' came from down in the lower end of Putnam Avenue," said Don Pagath, a committee member for the reunion. "A lot of people that worked down here at the Mark's Manufacturing, which was a tube mill, they were Hungarian. And it was called Hunkies."
The reunion will be on Saturday at the VFW, the sight of the old Grant school. While organizers hope to get large turnouts from those who attended Grant and Madison schools, they say it's open to anyone who may have lived, worked, or even just visited in the area.
"Trying to get all the old classmates and former residents and neighbors that lived down here or may have worked down here in the Putnam area anywhere from the 6th Street Bridge on down to come back for just a nice get together when we reacquaint ourselves with old friends and really meet some new friends along the way," said committee member Ron Bucci.
The reunion runs from noon to 4 p.m. and is free to attend.
