The First Friday Art Walk in Downtown Zanesville is taking place Friday. This month, the Zanesville Appalachian Arts Project (ZAAP) is highlighting artist Jennifer Sands.

Sands graduated from the Columbus College of Art and Design, and typically works with wool, fabric and resin. Some examples of these resin pieces will be on display at ZAAP. Sands says that the inspiration of her work that is currently on display came from changes in her life.

"I typically work with fiber art but this show's a little bit different. It's a little bit more contemporary, I wanted to talk about life changes. I've had a lot of life changes this year so I really wanted to celebrate that in this body of work "

Sands is currently teaching art at John Glenn High School. Artist Gary Graham says it's neat to see her work and know that she will be able to share her gift with others.

"It's neat what she's done and she's now able to teach that to students since she's in the teaching field."

Graham encourages all local artists who wish to show their work to join ZAAP and partake in their activities.

"If you're an artist in the community and you don't have a home base, don't really have a studio or a gallery to show your work and you want to join ZAAP, all you need to do is come down and get an application."

Sands will continue using her creativity at the Zanesville Museum of Art this summer through weaving. To see sands artwork, you can visit ZAAP from 5PM to 8PM Friday evening.
